Puntland has detained two officers from the Danab unit, allegedly linked to General Jimcaale’s forces, accusing them of recruitment activities for training under Somalia’s federal government, according to sources on Wednesday. The officers were reportedly traveling in a Brooke vehicle from Las Anod to Garowe when they were apprehended. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Puntland has previously issued warnings against the recruitment of troops under federal government command within its territory, labeling such actions as breaches of recent security directives.
These arrests occur amidst increasing political friction between Puntland and Somalia’s Federal Government, raising fears that the tension could potentially lead to armed conflict.
The two officers were taken into custody in Garowe, while a third officer allegedly escaped towards Las Anod.
