President Irro Hails Somaliland Police as Pillars of Peace on 32nd Anniversary.
HARGEISA — The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), today led a solemn and dignified ceremony marking the 32nd Anniversary of the Somaliland Police Force, celebrating more than three decades of service and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation’s peace and stability.
The commemoration, held at the Grand Hall of the Police Headquarters in Hargeisa, brought together senior government officials, foreign dignitaries, security chiefs, and members of the police command.
The atmosphere was one of reverence and national pride as the President paid tribute to the men and women who have stood as the backbone of Somaliland’s security since its re-establishment in 1993.
In his keynote address, President Irro praised the Police Force for its discipline, professionalism, and resilience, describing it as “a living symbol of the sovereignty, unity, and dignity of the Somaliland people.”
He highlighted the force’s role in maintaining peace, enforcing the law, and protecting citizens—values he called “the very foundations of the republic’s success.”
“The Somaliland Police are not merely enforcers of law,” President Irro declared. “They are guardians of our freedom, defenders of our stability, and the living embodiment of our collective will to remain peaceful and sovereign.”
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing and professionalizing the force, pledging sustained investment in training, equipment, and technology to strengthen national security and adapt to emerging threats.
“Our police must remain ahead of the challenges of the 21st century — from organized crime to cyber threats — and continue to serve our people with integrity and courage,” he said.
Brigadier General Abdirahman Abdillahi Hassan, the Police Commissioner, along with Minister of Interior Abdalle Mohamed Arab and Chief of Operations Ibrahim Haji Abdi, also addressed the gathering.
They commended the dedication of officers across all ranks and reaffirmed their readiness to uphold the rule of law and protect public order.
Speakers noted key progress made under the current administration, including new recruitment initiatives, expanded community policing programs, and the integration of digital systems to enhance efficiency and accountability.
In his closing remarks, President Irro called for continued partnership between citizens and law enforcement, urging Somalilanders to support the Police Force as an essential institution of national unity.
“The peace we enjoy today is not a gift—it is a responsibility shared by every citizen. Let us honor those who protect it by standing together as one people, under one flag, in pursuit of justice and progress,” he said.
The ceremony concluded with a salute parade and a moment of silence honoring officers who have fallen in the line of duty—a powerful reminder of the human cost behind Somaliland’s enduring peace.
