President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro) received Djibouti’s Representative to Somaliland, Ambassador Hussein Omar Kawaliyeh, at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa on Tuesday — a meeting that underscored Somaliland’s growing regional diplomacy and Djibouti’s recognition of its role as a stabilizing force in the Horn of Africa.
Though Ambassador Kawaliyeh has held the post for some time, this was his first official audience with President Irro, who has now been in office for ten months.
The discussions, according to officials, centered on strengthening the historical and cultural bonds between the two neighboring nations and opening new channels for cooperation in security, trade, and social development.
President Irro conveyed warm greetings to Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh, emphasizing that the two nations share more than a border — they share kinship, heritage, and a vision for a peaceful and prosperous Horn.
“Our relationship with Djibouti is rooted in brotherhood and shared aspirations,” Irro said, reaffirming Somaliland’s commitment to advancing collaboration on regional peace and long-term development.
Ambassador Kawaliyeh commended Somaliland’s consistent stability and governance record, praising Hargeisa’s progress in maintaining security and promoting sustainable growth.
He reaffirmed Djibouti’s readiness to deepen its engagement with Somaliland through joint initiatives that promote trade, investment, and cross-border coordination.
The meeting concluded on an optimistic note, with both sides pledging to expand cooperation through direct dialogue and mutual support in regional forums.
