The body of a Turkish citizen killed in a bomb attack in Somalia sent to Türkiye.

MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a brazen act of terror, the al-Shabaab extremist group has claimed another innocent life. Abdurrahim Yoruk, a Turkish citizen delivering humanitarian aid, was martyred in a cowardly bomb attack near Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.

Yoruk, a representative of the Verenel Association, was distributing vital Ramadan supplies to impoverished families when a roadside bomb detonated. This brutal act not only targeted a selfless humanitarian worker but also aimed to disrupt the vital lifeline of aid during the holy month.

Yoruk’s body was repatriated to Türkiye aboard a solemn flight from Mogadishu Aden Adde Airport. Turkish Ambassador Alper Aktas, along with Somali government officials and representatives of Turkish institutions in Somalia, paid their respects during the somber ceremony.

Mohamud Moallin Abdulle, President of Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency, condemned the attack and expressed his deepest condolences to the Turkish people. “The Somali people stand with Türkiye in this time of grief,” Abdulle declared. “Yoruk’s selfless sacrifice will not be forgotten.”

This attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by al-Shabaab. Their indiscriminate violence targets innocent civilians and undermines efforts to bring stability to Somalia. The international community must remain vigilant against these barbaric forces and stand united with the Somali people in their fight for peace.

The fight against terrorism continues. Stay informed. Stay vigilant.
