In the heart of Somaliland, amidst the bustling streets and vibrant communities, lies a tale of shattered dreams and broken promises. This is the story of Warsame Qotaali, a young man with a heart full of hope and a passion for serving his homeland, only to be met with the harsh reality of discrimination and prejudice.

Born in the United States to the Arap tribe of Sheikh Isaaq, Warsame Qotaali grew up surrounded by the values of service and sacrifice. His journey led him to the prestigious ranks of the Air Force Marines, where he honed his skills and dedicated himself to protecting his country. But despite his accomplishments and expertise, Warsame’s dream of contributing to the development of Somaliland was met with disdain and rejection.

Upon returning to his homeland in 2021, Warsame Qotaali was eager to share his knowledge and expertise with Somaliland’s security forces. However, his attempts to offer free training and transfer of knowledge were met with resistance and indifference. Shockingly, Warsame was told that there was no need for someone of his background, hailing from the Arap tribe and the Hawd region.
The discrimination faced by Warsame Qotaali is not an isolated incident but rather a symptom of the deep-rooted divisions that plague Somaliland. Despite its aspirations for independence and progress, Somaliland remains divided along tribal lines, with nepotism and favoritism dictating opportunities and advancements.
Warsame’s heartbreaking tale serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that confront Somaliland on its journey towards unity and prosperity. As long as discrimination and tribalism continue to fester within its borders, the dreams of young visionaries like Warsame will remain unfulfilled, and the promise of a brighter future will remain out of reach.

It is time for Somaliland to confront its demons and embrace inclusivity and equality for all its citizens. Only then can it truly harness the potential of its people and pave the way for a better tomorrow. The time for change is now, and it starts with recognizing and rectifying the injustices faced by individuals like Warsame Qotaali.
