During the administration of President Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal, Buurmadow was incarcerated for inciting tribal division and actively undermining state authority.
Years later, under President Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo, he was arrested upon his arrival at Hargeisa airport and convicted of running anti-national campaigns abroad alongside criminal defamation.
Most recently, under President Muse Bihi Abdi, he was arrested and sanctioned once again for illegal political interference and efforts to dismantle national unity.
