The Somali Federal Police Force announced a major drug bust at the main port in Mogadishu. On Saturday, police seized two containers filled with psychotropic substances. The narcotics were on display today after the successful operation.
Details of the Seizure
Police spokesman Abdifatah Adan Hassan told the media at the port that the security forces acted on a tip. They found containers filled with a drug that is becoming more common among Somali youth. The seized drugs include Tramadol and Bilig Bilig pills, along with codeine syrup.
“The narcotics we seized contained 17 cartons, 112 cartons of Tramadol, and 120 cartons of codeine syrup,” the spokesperson said. He called them dangerous to the health of Somali youth.
Abdifatah also stated that authorities will take strict action against the dealers who tried to import the drugs. The government is committed to bringing them to court. This seizure follows a similar bust at Aden Adde Airport just a day earlier. In that operation, police confiscated other narcotics intended to be smuggled into the city.
