Ukraine’s battlefield has become a drone war, and fibre-optic drones are now a game-changer. Unlike traditional radio-controlled drones, these drones connect to operators via thin cables, making them almost impossible to jam or detect.
By mid-2024, Russia began deploying fibre-optic drones, eroding Ukraine’s earlier tech advantage. These drones support fast motorcycle assaults, strike logistics, and disrupt Ukrainian defenses.
Ukraine’s commander admits Russia currently leads in drone numbers and use, helped by Chinese fibre-optic technology. Kyiv is racing to catch up, sourcing parts from India and China.
Countermeasures are limited. Shotguns or scissors might work, but high-tech AI turrets remain expensive and complex.
