Iran’s Near-Bomb-Grade Uranium Stock Grows as Talks Stall, IAEA Reports Say

VIENNA, May 27 (WARYATV) – Iran continues to enrich uranium close to weapons-grade levels at a consistent rate, while discussions aimed at enhancing its cooperation with the U.N. nuclear watchdog remain stalled, according to two confidential reports from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released on Monday.

The reports highlight significant challenges faced by the IAEA in monitoring Iran’s nuclear activities. Despite a “Joint Statement” on cooperation made last year, the IAEA noted that Iran has only implemented a small fraction of the steps it had seemingly committed to, raising concerns over the country’s nuclear ambitions and transparency.

Iran is steadily enriching uranium to near-weapons-grade levels, which brings it closer to having the necessary material for a nuclear bomb.

Efforts to negotiate and improve Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA have made little progress, with key discussions remaining at an impasse.

The IAEA’s reports reveal that Iran has only followed through on a limited number of actions promised in last year’s Joint Statement on cooperation, undermining efforts to ensure the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.

The IAEA’s revelations come at a time of heightened international scrutiny and concern over Iran’s nuclear program. The lack of progress in negotiations and Iran’s continued enrichment activities have escalated fears of a potential nuclear crisis in the region.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed frustration over the situation, emphasizing the need for Iran to fully comply with its international obligations and provide transparency about its nuclear activities. “The current trajectory is deeply concerning and underscores the urgent need for Iran to adhere to the commitments it has made,” Grossi stated.

The reports have triggered reactions from various international stakeholders. The United States and European allies have reiterated their calls for Iran to return to the negotiation table and comply with the IAEA’s requirements. “Iran’s actions are a clear violation of international norms, and we urge them to engage constructively with the IAEA,” a U.S. State Department spokesperson said.

Conversely, Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and insists on its right to develop nuclear technology. Iranian officials have accused the IAEA of bias and have called for a more balanced approach to inspections and reporting.

The ongoing standoff and Iran’s advancing uranium enrichment could have far-reaching implications for regional and global security. Experts warn that if Iran achieves weapons-grade uranium, it could spark a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, destabilizing the already volatile region.

The IAEA reports underscore the urgent need for renewed diplomatic efforts to address Iran’s nuclear program. With talks stalled and Iran’s stockpile of near-bomb-grade uranium growing, the international community faces a critical challenge in preventing nuclear proliferation and ensuring regional stability.
