The Commander of the Somaliland National Army, Brigadier General Nimcaan Yusuf Osman, conducted an official inspection tour of military installations in the Awdal and Salal regions this week, underscoring the government’s commitment to reinforcing security and safeguarding national borders.
During his visit, the Commander held a series of meetings with the Salal Regional Security Committee, chaired by the regional governor, alongside community leaders and dignitaries. The discussions centered on the current security climate, the challenges facing local communities, and strategies to bolster cooperation between the army and civilians in maintaining peace.
Brig. Gen. Nimcaan also visited frontline bases along the Somaliland–Djibouti border, where he received detailed briefings from military officers on operational readiness and border defense measures. In Lughaya district, the Commander inspected the National Army base and later met with local elders and intellectuals. The elders praised the leadership for prioritizing border security and welcomed the closer engagement between the armed forces and local communities.
Military sources indicated that the inspection forms part of a wider initiative to strengthen Somaliland’s defense posture by enhancing training, upgrading equipment, and improving preparedness against external threats.
Officials noted that the tour reflects the National Army’s ongoing strategy to reinforce Somaliland’s sovereignty and stability at a time of heightened regional security challenges.
