China, India, Iran, and North Korea Line Up Against the West

Beijing’s parade shows off more than weapons — it reveals an “axis of upheaval” that could redraw Europe’s security map while Washington looks inward.

Putin, Xi, Modi, Kim, and Iran’s Pezeshkian stood together in Beijing. Beyond Ukraine, their message was blunt: the Western-led order is weakening, and Europe may be next in the firing line.

The optics were almost surreal: Putin, flanked by Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, smiling beneath banners of Chinese military might. For Europe, the image landed like a shockwave. The war in Ukraine has dragged into its fourth year, and Russia is still standing — because it has friends powerful enough to keep it alive.

China and India pump cash into Moscow through oil and coal. Iran supplies drones that terrorize Ukrainian cities. North Korea sends soldiers for hire. This is no ragtag coalition. It’s a constellation of economies and arsenals that together dwarf Europe’s fragmented defenses.

The summit and parade in Beijing were less about celebrating history and more about projecting the future: a multipolar world with no patience for Western dominance. “Axis of upheaval” isn’t just rhetoric anymore — it’s marching down Tiananmen Square.

For Europe, the danger is twofold. First, the illusion of isolating Putin has collapsed; sanctions haven’t crippled him, because Xi and Modi won’t let them. Second, America’s security umbrella is fraying under Trump’s “America First” doctrine. If Washington turns inward, Europe is left staring down a coalition of adversaries with nuclear weapons, economic leverage, and no shame in saying the old order is dead.

Pragmatism holds this bloc together — not friendship. But in geopolitics, interests are stronger than affection. Right now, their shared interest is weakening the West.

Europe can laugh off the smiles and handshakes. What it can’t dismiss is the strategic reality: the Cold War map has been redrawn, and this time the West isn’t dictating the rules.
