Somaliland’s Electoral Commission Prepares for November 2024 Elections with Region-Wide Polling Station Surveys

Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) has ramped up preparations for the upcoming national elections, scheduled for November 13, 2024, by surveying polling stations across the country’s regions. The initiative, led by key officials from the NEC and supported by representatives from political organizations and parties, aims to ensure the electoral process is secure and efficient.

A delegation headed by Mr. Muse Hassan Yusuf, Chairman of the NEC, recently traveled to Aynabo District as part of this critical mission. The team focused on gathering vital data from local polling stations to fine-tune election logistics. Alongside these efforts, the delegation met with Sarar Region’s security committee, including the Deputy Governor and regional military commanders, to discuss enhancing election-day security. Both parties underscored the importance of maintaining peace and safety at polling places to guarantee a smooth electoral process.

Simultaneously, another NEC delegation, led by Deputy Chairman Ahmed Osman Hassan and Commissioner Ibrahim Macalin Adan, visited Awdal and Selel regions. They, too, surveyed polling stations and conducted high-level meetings with Awdal’s governor and security forces to strategize on safeguarding the region during the election period.

These coordinated efforts reflect Somaliland’s commitment to ensuring a secure and transparent election. Both the government and the NEC are working closely to strengthen security protocols, promising robust preparations ahead of the November 2024 elections.
